A study conducted by the Children’s Hospital at Westmead found of eight child drowning cases, CPR
had been attempted by the rescuers as soon as possible on four of the cases. In the other four cases,
rescuers waited for emergency services to arrive.
The four children who received CPR in the first instance survived. The four who did not, died.
As the chance of survival is influenced by the time elapsed before applying CPR, should the
pool owner know CPR??
